The Culinary School of Fort Worth has added an online ordering feature to their prepared meals service. This was the next step in what has been an ever-evolving service since the original COVID-19 restaurant restrictions were put into place mid-March.
The Culinary School of Fort Worth’s president Scott Wade thought of the prepared meals service as a great opportunity for both the community and CSFTW’s students.
“We started the prepared meals during COVID to provide a convenient place for people in the neighborhood to grab quality meals to go,” Wade said. “It has turned into a great opportunity for our students to receive additional hands-on experience while working alongside our kitchen staff.”
The meal production is overseen by CSFTW alum and Kitchen Manager Felix Veloz and Culinary Operations Manager Ched Pagtakhan. They are assisted each week by students who volunteer to help prepare the meals outside of their class time.
“I’ve worked at two different places before where I’ve done prepared meals, and it was a great learning experience for me in portion and cost control,” Veloz said. “Now I have the chance to do that again here while also helping to teach these students some catering techniques.”
Each week, Veloz puts together a menu that is released on Mondays. The Culinary School of Fort Worth’s prepared meals customers can then place their meal orders on Monday or Tuesday for a pickup on Friday. Veloz and the students prep their ingredients on Wednesdays and put the meals together on Thursdays.
Until last week, the only option for ordering these meals was to call the school and place an order over the phone. Now, thanks to CSFTW’s Office Manager Brittney Hermeling, customers have the option of placing their orders online. Both of these options guarantee a completely contactless experience as all meals are delivered curbside upon arrival.
